Chalet Contemporary

Vacation Home by Ashton Taylor Interiors, LLC in Big Sky, MT

Perched atop Big Sky Mountain in Montana, this vacation chalet was designed to be everything but cliché. With the clients love of art, the sculptures and paintings directed the design path of a boasting contemporary interior with subtle nods to nature. The first item selected for the project was a 400lb bronze mountain goat sculpture, by Tim Shinabarger, that was craned straight from a local gallery into the home. Its positioning is meant to continue the landscape from the exterior to the interior. The home needed to be luxurious enough to host its significant neighbors but durable enough to handle grandchildren, wet jackets and the bulk of ski attire. With these requirements we decide to incorporate a cool furniture palette of alpaca wools, chrome and lacquered finishes in juxtaposition with the deep textured wall plaster and wooden trim detailing. In the master we designed a soft haven with a full Silk rug and furniture that reads sculpturally itself. The smooth modern headboard is wrapped with a simple cow patterned hide and the table lamps bring in warm metals and suede. This chalet was meant to be shared, so we included bunk rooms whenever possible to host the maximum amount of guests for this couple’s winter retreat.
