Ecole de Paris painting by Louis Nallard "Interior" Tempera on board ca 1955
By Louis Nallard
Located in EL Waalre, NL
Louis Nallard, “Interior”, circa 1955 – Tempera on cardboard, professionally framed Original artwork by French painter Louis Nallard. In this abstracted Interior the artist blends grey and earthtones with strokes of vibrant blues, orange and green. Signed by the artist, right bottom corner. About the artist Louis Nallard (Algiers 1918 – Paris 2016) was a French non-figurative painter of the Nouvelle École de Paris. Born on June 17, 1918, in Algiers, French Algeria, had a life intertwined with art and creativity. Despite facing early hardships with the loss of his mother to the Spanish flu, Nallard found solace in his ancestral landscapes. Every summer, he returned to the Dombes region, his father’s birthplace, which became a wellspring of inspiration for his artistic endeavors. At the tender age of sixteen, in 1934, Nallard unveiled his debut exhibition featuring portraits and landscapes, showcasing his skills in watercolors and gouaches. The exhibition took place at the gallery owned by Thomas Rouault, the nephew of the renowned painter. In 1941, Nallard enrolled at the Beaux-arts in Algiers, where he encountered fellow artists such as Marcel Fiorini and Robert Lavergne. Lavergne later became his introducer at the prestigious Galerie Jeanne Bucher. During this time, Nallard also met Maria Manton...

Pop Art Robert Indiana Yield Brother 1971 Screenprint Edition 230 Red Blue
By Robert Indiana
Located in EL Waalre, NL
Pop Art Robert Indiana Yield Brother 1971 Screenprint Edition 230 Red Blue “Yield Brother”, from the “Decade” suite. Screenprint on heavy wove-paper, 1971. An impactful work where Indiana made use of military signage, stenciled letters and a palette of strong colours creating tension between it’s call for peace and the visual language of military posters. Signed and dated and numbered (46/200) in pencil by the artist. The print also bears the artist’s copyright ink stamp. Part of an edition of 230 total: 30 artist’s proof and a regular edition of 200. The edition was printed by Domberger, Stuttgart (Germany) and published by Multiples Inc. New York City. Professionally framed in a brushed aluminium frame. Museum-glass was used to minimize reflection. Ready to hang. About the artist Robert Indiana (pseudonym of Robert Clark) ( New Castle, USA 1928 – Vinalhaven, USA 2018) was an American painter, sculptor and poet. He was a leading representative of pop art and created the internationally famous LOVE symbol in 1964. A self-described American painter of signs”, Robert Indiana’s works explore visual culture, national identity and personal history through symbols and colours inspired by signage and graphic design. Indiana had his first solo exhibition in 1962 at Eleanor Ward’s Stable Gallery, which at that time also represented Cy Twombly and Robert Rauschenberg. In 1962 he participated with the work The Black American Dream #2 in the exhibition New Realists, organized in the gallery of Sidney Janis. It was here that pop art first announced itself as a new movement in visual art. In the following years, Indiana would participate in all the important group exhibitions of this movement. Although the Pop Art movement made Indiana famous, he was never fully comfortable with the consumerist nature of Pop Art as his work often was very politically outspoken. In 1978 Robert Indiana left New York City for good, moving to the remote island of Vinalhaven in Maine, close to where his hero, the painter Marsden Hartley had lived. Since then he rarely gave interviews or engaged in the art world, yet he continued to align himself with political causes, designing the official poster for Barack Obama’s Presidential campaign in 2008. During his lifetime Indiana had countless exhibitions all over the world, and his work is included in the collections of numerous international museums: among others Metropolitan Museum New York, Museum of Modern Art New York, Tate Modern London, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and Hara Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo. Signed Signed and numbered (46/200) by the artist in pencil. Condition Overall good condition. Full margins. Slight undulation on right side of the print. Slight moisture damage in upper left margin. Edition Part of an edition of 230 total: 30 artist's proof and a regular edition of 200. The edition was printed by Domberger, Stuttgart (Germany) and published by Multiples Inc. New York City. Scandinavian Modern Gunnel Nyman Amber and clear Art Glass Vase Handblown 1951
By Nuutajärvi Notsjõ, Gunnel Nyman
Located in EL Waalre, NL
Scandinavian Modern Gunnel Nyman Amber and clear Art Glass Vase Finland, 1951 A spike-mould blown, clear and amber coloured, cased glass Art-object, model GN 12. Designed by Gunnel Nyman in 1947 and executed by the craftsmen of the Nuutajärvi-Notsjö Glassworks in 1951. Model GN 12 was made between 1949 and 1953 in three different colours: clear glass, amber and lilac. It's interesting to note that the two coloured ones were more expensive than the clear glass specimen and still are more sought after by collectors. This Art-object is acid-signed underneath the base: G. Nyman - Nuutajärvi-Notsjö - 51 (1951). The signature has faded slightly but is still perfectly readable. Condition This art-object is in good vintage condition, some minor scratches and wear consistent with age and use. No cracks or chips. Literature Mel Bryars - The Design Encyclopedia p. 547 Dimensions Height 19.5 cm Diameter 13 cm Weight 1028 grams Shipping Worldwide Complimentary Shipping. About the Artist Gunnel Nyman (Turku 1909 – 1948) was a Finnish designer most known for her modern art-glass design. She was educated at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in Helsinki under Arttu Brummer. During her short but brilliant carreer - she died while still in her thirties - she designed glassobjects for all the major Finnish glassworks. First at Riihimäki from 1932 until 1947. Followed by Karhula from 1935 to 1937, Nuutajärvi-Notsjö from 1946-1948 and finally Iittala from 1946-1947. Besides glass-objects she also designed furniture and light fixtures for Taito in the late 1930's. Her style was characterised by a strong sense of form and a subtle articulation of surface and mass. Ada Polak, a famous French glass-historian wrote about Nymans creations: "She had an intense feeling for the soft pliability of the material. While the effect of inlaid colours and bubbles were exploited in a series of graceful vases" and "Whetever technique she employed, she gave to all her designs a subtle touch of true poetry". Gunnel Nyman was awarded citations and medals in the 1933 and 1936 Riihimäki glass competition. A gold medal and silver medal at the Exposition Internationale des Arts et Technique dans la Vie Moderne in Paris. And a posthumus gold medal at the 1951 Triennale...

Scandinavian Modern Gunnar Nylund Stoneware Antilope Sculpture Rörstrand ca 1955
By Rörstrand, Gunnar Nylund
Located in EL Waalre, NL
Gunnar Nylund, Stoneware Sculpture of an Antilope, Rörstrand, Sweden, circa 1955 Description A large stoneware sculpture of an Antilope, finished in matte reddish brown and dark brown glazes on a satin-gloss black lacquered wooden base, made in a limited edition of 200 pieces. Gunnar Nyland was particular known for his animal figures with beautiful experimental glazes. The larger examples of exotic animals - like this antilope - are especially sought after. This sculpture was designed by Gunnar Nylund and executed by the Swedish ceramics factory Rörstrand in the 1950's. It is fully signed underneath: R (Rörstrand) Sweden with 3 crowns (after 1951 Rörstrand changed to the international spelling Sweden), GN (Gunnar Nylund) and 83/200. As it lacks the post 1960 VDN markings, this piece can be dated between 1951 and 1960. Scandinavian Modern Saara Hopea two sizes Glass Bowls Blue Green Handblown 1950s
By Nuutajärvi Notsjõ, Saara Hopea-Untracht
Located in EL Waalre, NL
Scandinavian Modern Saara Hopea two sizes Glass Bowls Blue Green Handblown 1950s Two mold-blown, clear, dark-blue and moss-green cased glass Art-objects / bowls, model SH117. Designed by Saara Hopea in 1956 and executed by Nuutajärvi-Notsjö in 1958 & 1959. An optical effect makes it appear as if the colour goes to the outer edges but the encasing is only in the interior. These objects were made between 1956 and 1967 in two sizes 9,5 cm and 13,5 cm in diameter, and in several colours (blue, green, yellow, purple and red) this being a complete set in green and blue. Both are early production examples. They are marked and dated in diamond pen underneath the base. About Saara Hopea Saara Elisabet Hopea (Porvoo 1925 - Porvoo 1984) was a Finnish designer of Art-glass, furniture and jewellery. Saara Hopea was born in 1925 in Porvoo, in the south of Finland. Her parents Ossian Hopea and Lempi Westerlund owned a goldsmithing company. After attending secondary school, Hopea studied at the Interior Design Department of the Central School of Art and Design, now the Aalto University of Art and Design. She graduated in 1946, and worked for a few years as an illustrator, then she accepted a job at the lighting factory of Taito Oy, headed by the renowned designer Paavo Tynell. In the early 1950's, Saara Hopea became interested in glass design and started working at the Nuutajärvi glass factory, where she worked under artistic director Kaj Franck. After her father's death, Saara Hopea took over the direction of the family business Ossian Hopea Oy in 1959. She worked as the artistic director from 1959 to 1960 and again from 1967 and was responsible for numerous jewellery designs. In 1960 Saara Hopea married Oppi Untracht...
