Lantern Column I
By Niho Kozuru
Located in West Palm Beach, FL
Title: Lantern Column I Year: 1998 - 2014 Medium: Mold blown glass, cast polymer, steel, cast iron Size: 41 3/4" inches Niho Kozuru (髙鶴丹穂) is a Japanese-born mixed media artist based in Boston, MA. Kozuru casts and reconfigures molds of her own designs, classical and industrial turned architectural forms in unexpected materials. Using rubber, glass and clay she creates columns with undulating silhouettes. The “Lantern Columns” are a group of 7 towers, ranging from 4 feet to 7 feet tall. They have been shown in various configurations in multiple US States as well as the Fukuoka City Museum in Kyushu, Japan. Kozuru made 60 components by blowing glass into molds of her own designs while at Artists in Residency at Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina. After traveling the world, the Lantern Columns have been arranged into their final configuration, with a steel armature within and each topped with a vivid cast iron final...

"Spore", gestural, ceramic, matte, sculpture, white, grey, stoneware
By Sara Fine-Wilson
Located in Natick, MA
Sara Fine-Wilson's “Spore" is a gestural 17.5 x 9 x 7 inch ceramic sculpture in white and gray. It is hand built and wheel constructed in white stoneware. Individual hand formed details are layered over the entire surface creating a graceful and fluid form. The surface is coated in a cool white matte glaze that becomes darker gray and glossy along the points that have been caught during the soda firing process. Some of the points in this piece have been blunted and crusted over during the firing process. The glaze emphasizes the contrast between surfaces and edges. Fine Wilson’s ceramic work contains elements of both raw and refined surfaces including cracks, ruptures and pooling of glaze. Sara Fine-Wilson is a contemporary sculptor based in the Boston area...

My materials include hand-dyed commercially fished line and ghost gear, recycled and antique textiles, fabric printed with cyanotype emulsions and found objects. I change the existing surface of recognizable animals by creating a veneer of unexpected color and imagery. This forces the viewer to consider the shape more carefully by visually exploring its new topography. The creation process can be likened to painting with fiber (that has been tinted with hand-mixed dyes) on a three-dimensional canvas. Intense work is spent creating the eyes and ears to convey the emotion of each animal. I look to the work of Joan Mitchell and The Quilters of Gee’s Bend...

"Crystal Cloud" Wall Piece, Painted Metal, Silver, Chrome, White, Sparkly Black
Located in Wellesley, MA
Wendy Letven's brilliantly colored abstract wall sculptures and freestanding pieces of painted aluminum are an exciting addition to genres which the artist has extraordinarily reinvigorated with forms that are playful, elegant, sophisticated and unique. Extending approximately 4 - 8 inches from the wall, reflected shadows can also be a marvelous aspect of Letven's works. Occasional and subtle scientific references ( molecules, atoms, astronomy, physics) add gravitas and intellectual weight to works that are pure visual delights - humorous, quite complex and intricate, wildly colorful (or more subdued in black, white and/or silver). Natural is equally influential. Working in sizes as small as 10" high to 10' long, there is an enormous range of possibilities with Letven's sculptures as pedestal and shelf pieces, freestanding works, and very large commissions adaptable to both walls and huge spaces for interior and/or exterior sites: Wendy Letven "Crystal Cloud...

Untitled
Located in Provincetown, MA
Viewing Elspeth Halvorsen Vevers’ box constructions is a lot like a walk in the moonlight. What we believe to be true in the hard brightness of daytime reality dissolves into an amorphous space of multiple possibilities and perspectives. Describing these constructions, Boston Globe art critic Cate McQuaid wrote “a container becomes the state for an insinuating abstract narrative.” Halvorsen was instrumental in organizing the much-heralded cooperative Rising Tide Gallery. She was not only a talented sculptor, but was also the matriarch of the uniquely gifted Vevers family of artists: her husband was painter Tony Vevers...
