Elvis Presley's Gold and Diamond Watch

About the Item

Once worn by the most celebrated cultural icon of the 20th century, this incredible diamond-studded watch was owned by Elvis Presley. The watch was later gifted by Elvis to his close friend and backup singer J.D. Sumner, along with a custom-made gold ring to match. Elvis possessed a love for gospel music beginning at an early age - not only did it influence him as a singer, but it also provided a source of calm and support throughout his demanding career. His passion led him to form a close friendship with the American gospel singer J.D. Sumner, whom Elvis looked up to as a teenager. Sumner became a mentor to the young singer, and after Elvis launched his career, he hired Sumner and his quartet as his backup singers in 1971. The group toured with Presley for six years until his death in 1977, after which Sumner would sing at his dear friend's funeral. Sumner continued his career as a singer until his death in 1998. He was inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 1984 and the Southern Gospel Music Association Hall of Fame in 1997. Elvis often gifted tokens to his close friends and colleagues, but this watch is perhaps the most extravagant gift he ever made. Crafted of 14K yellow gold, the Swiss made wristwatch features a handsome clock face surrounded by 26 round white diamonds. The band features a personal engraving, which reads "From Elvis to J.D. Sumner, 1974." The best-selling solo artist in recorded history, Elvis Presley remains among the most loved and recognized celebrities in the world.
