1918 Elgin Rare 6 Size 15J Trench Watch With Armor Shield 118 Years Young!
Located in Raleigh, NC
My shop was recently selected to supply vintage American watches for a premier movie starring some major actors and a world-famous director. They were looking for authentic watches that would represent the time period from 1915-1926. I was selected because of my attention to detail and originality. It is a true story of events that took place during the 1920’s. This offering would have been perfect for the movie, it was not available at the time of the movies filming. ‘ Everyone once and awhile I get a treasure. This offering is originates from 1918, yes, that is correct 1918. There are several distinct characteristics that make this a real treasure to collect, keep reading if your curious. The watches size is the special attribute. You see this is a 6 size with an original armor shield. It is very hard to find 6 size wrist watches from the Trench watch era, let alone one that has an original crystal guard. Add one rarer characteristic to this watch. A genuine Bold Military dial that has been professionally refinished to its original status; this is the highlight of this listing. Luminous material has been applied. Don’t wait! Very hard to find an original Dial! This offering is super hard to find. You could wait years before another one comes up for sale. Take close notes, save the pictures, it will be a long time before you see another one. NOTE, I am not happy with the new crystal, its profile is too high and the armor guard could be a little tighter. it’s my paranoia and my professional desire deliver a quality vintage watch. This may delay your shipment. To have a 6 size with a genuine Trench watch dial is extraordinary. They are very difficult to find. This is the first one in about 10 years! For collectors who are reading this listing, they know how hard it is to find one in pristine condition. The case measures approximately 40 millimeters, unheard of during this era! Very Very Rare! I have gently hand polished this case. it is a polish that does wonders for silver, nickel, etc This watch was serviced November 2023. It runs beautifully as of this listing., It has a new crystal installed as well, I finished the watch with a 18 millimeters black Buffalo leather open ended Trench Watch band with a stainless-steel buckle to match the case Please keep in mind the watches that are 100+ years young do not keep time like modern watches. They do not have modern seals to acts as a dust or moisture barrier. Look at the pictures to compare against another watch. One has to know a bit of background to understand Trench watches History about Trench Watches They were created using 3-0 and 0 size and very rarely 6 size pocket watch movements and installing into watch cases that were meant to worn on the wrist. The watch movement companies would send their movements to independent jewelers, who in turn would select the cases as described below to house the movement.[ So, the ordering process might go like this. A customer walks into a jeweler, with the help of the jeweler, the customer selects a 15 jeweled movement, then they go on to the case selection. The jeweler may recommend a higher end case manufactures. Once a complete selection was made, the jeweler put it together and delivered the watch. That is how many Trench Watches wrist watches were born in the early 1900’s. The movements often came from women pocket watches...

Omega Cocktail - Vintage White Gold & Diamond Manual Wind Ladies' Watch
Located in Antwerp, BE
Up for sale is this beautiful Swiss Made 18k White Gold and Diamond Ladies' cocktail watch with reference number 7256, made by Omega and dating back to 1969 based on its serial number. The watch case measures approximately 16.5mm in diameter, is crafted from solid 18k white gold, and seamlessly flows over into the white gold mesh bracelet. The factory set diamond bezel contains 20 high quality brilliant cut diamonds totalling approximately 0.4ct. The dial is kept to its bare minimum: simplistic hour markers combined with a vertically brushed silver tone dial and baton shaped hands create a minimalist watch face. Behind the solid gold case back we find the beating heart of this watch: a mechanical hand-winding Omega movement with caliber reference 650. Thanks to the incorporation of this movement, the watch case can be kept as thin as 6mm. For such a sleek and refined watch, its total weight still adds up to about 36.5 grams. The watch is sold as pre-owned and vintage, however it still is in good condition considering its age. You will find wear marks on the case and bracelet, but no coarse damage. The case has been cleaned thoroughly, but was left unpolished to maintain its original edges and curves. The sapphire crystal looks unscathed to the naked eye. The crown is original and signed with the Omega logo. The movement was freshly serviced, and is working perfectly. Please study the pictures in this listing well: they show the watch in the condition that it is in, with no digital enhancements to make it look better than it is. We are sure that you like honesty, and so do we. Please do note that the clasp has a small adjustment setting, but the bracelet on this watch is otherwise not drastically resizable. Ideally, the watch fits wrists with a circumference between 16 and 17.5cm. Accompanying the watch is its lovely original clamshell Omega presentation box, but sadly no paperwork is present with this piece. Your new timepiece will be packaged with great care, and will be shipped out as fast as possible. We usually ship the same day your payment comes in, and provide full insurance as well as a tracking code for all of our packages. If you have any questions regarding the item or our services, please do not hesitate to reach out. We'll gladly assist as soon as we get the chance. Located in London, GB
Antique pocket watch featuring a beautiful ornate design dating back to 1903. The watch has a number of makings indicating the piece was made by 'Waltham Watch Company' and it is 14k gold filled. The interior watch mechanism dates back to 1891 and went into manufacture in 1903. The watch company was estimated in 1850 and closed in 1957. They produced the watches in Waltham, Massachusetts in the United States. Waltham was one of the great American manufactures. The watch is tactile to touch with textured engravings on the back and the front has a new plastic face which is in excellent condition. The watch keeps time beautifully. To operate the watch, carefully twist the top faceted gold ball situated inside the ring at the top of the piece. By twisting the ball the piece is being wound up, this watch does not need a key. Ferdinand Verger Freres Platinum Tonneau Art Deco Art Nouveau Watch with Diamond
Located in PARIS, FR
VERGER FRERES Founded in 1872 For the discerning ones Wear Verger watch it's integrate the club of famous clients : Mary Pickford, Arletty, Mistinguett, Joan Crawford, Paulette Godard, Katherine Hepburn, Claudette Colbert, Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich, Dolores Del Rio, Anne May Wong, Merle Oberon, Mae West, Sonja Henie, Gloria Swanson... Founded in 1872 by Ferdinand Verger, Verger Frères realised the synthesis in its time between Art Nouveau and Art Deco. Due to its recognized know-how during the Roaring Twenties, Verger Frères worked for the most renowned European jewelers such as Boucheron, Van Cleef & Arpels, Hermès, Ostertag or Lacloche Frères, as well as the great American Jewelers such as Tiffany & Co, Marcus & Co, Black Starr & Frost. Thus, Verger Frères became a Jeweler of Jewelers, working for all the major houses, from Place Vendôme in Paris, to Rue du Rhône in Geneva, to 5th Avenue in New York and Rodeo Drive in Los Angeles. A Gerald Genta of its Time. During the 1920s, the city of Paris became the capital of the arts and the privileged meeting place for artists and intellectuals of that time. Thus, Gertrude Stein introduced Picasso, Braque and Matisse to the works of Hemingway and Scott Fitzgerald. The beautiful world frequents the salons of the capital, and Verger Frères is the jeweler of choice for many personalities. A year before the great founding exhibition of Art Deco in Paris, in 1924, French luxury was exported to New York at the Grand Central Palace for an exhibition which, for the first time, brought together Parisian jewelers such as Verger Frères, Cartier, Mauboussin or Templier with fashion designers like the Callot sisters, Paquin, Vionnet, Jeanne Lanvin, or Worth. Thanks to this exposure, it will be able to develop throughout the United States with a presence at Neiman Marcus as well as at the first retailers in major American cities such as Philadelphia (Caldwell J.E.), Palm Beach (Greenleaf & Crosby) or Chicago (Trabert & Hoeffer ) and especially in Los Angeles with Trabert & Hoeffer and Laykin, two of the jewelers, of which all of Hollywood was a customer. Verger deserves immortality, as do most of the objects that they made. As Ralph Esmerian concisely put it: “In terms of their creativity and production, they’re [Verger] right at the top of the French manufacturers, including the great retail names”. Make the perfect gift with this fabulous Art Deco watch by Ferdinand Verger the founder of Verger Frères. The early pieces will bear the early trademark, “FV”, for Ferdinand Verger (after 1872); “VF” for Verger Frères from 1911–1935; Georges Verger...

Longines 18kt. Yellow Gold Art Nouveau Style Presentation Watch Box and Papers
Located in Long Beach, CA
FACTORY / HOUSE: Longines Watch Company STYLE / REFERENCE: Art Nouveau METAL / MATERIAL: 18Kt. Yellows Gold CIRCA / YEAR: 1900's DIMENSIONS / SIZE: Diameter 35mm MOVEMENT / CALIBER: Manual Winding / 17 Jewels DIAL / HANDS: Kiln Fired Enamel Dial with Filigree Hands WARRANTY: 18 months on the movement LIFETIME SERVICE COMMITMENT This is a "vault find" watch, it has been locked up for nearly 50 years, which means it needs a service. We will service it for you as part of the purchase price before it is shipped out to you. This will delay shipping for a few days of course. It is rare that we find watches with their original box and papers that are this old. This unique pendant was presented as an award for shooting contest. The watch comes with original documentation as well discussing the event which was a woman's shooting contest. The watch is in excellent original condition and can actually be worn and counted on all the time. This is a truly unique item. The company was founded in 1832 by Auguste Agassiz, a Swiss watchmaker. He was also the brother of renowned biologist Louis Agassiz. Agassiz started the company with two partners, lawyers Henri Raiguel and Florian Morel. The company's original name was Raiguel Jeune & Cie. In 1846, Raigeul and Morel retired from the watch industry, leaving Agassiz as sole company head. Several years later, Agassiz brought in his bright, enterprising nephew, trained economist Ernest Francillon, into the business. Francillon was the mastermind behind several impressive innovations that would distinguish the company from its competitors. In 1880, Francillon trademarked the Longines name and its winged hourglass logo. The winged hourglass is a symbol of precision and timekeeping, and it has become one of the most recognizable logos in the watch industry. In 1912, Longines became the official timekeeper of the Olympic Games. The company has held this position ever since, and it has been involved in every Olympic Games since then. Longines has also been the official timekeeper of many other major sporting events, including the World Championships in Athletics, the Formula One World Championship, and the America's Cup. In 1931, Longines invented the Lindbergh Hour Angle watch. This watch was designed specifically for Charles Lindbergh, the first person to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. The watch featured a special bezel that allowed Lindbergh to calculate his longitude. In my own personal collection, I have the Longines Caliber 13 ZN Chronograph that Commander Richard Byrd took to Antarctica in 1928. It was purchased at the time from Abercrombie and Fitch in New York along with all the other equipment used on the expedition, it still runs well and keeps good, even after 100 years. In the 1980’s I was privileged to view their “collection” in their vaults. It was not open to the public, but a contact arranged it. There were examples of all the finest pocket and wristwatches they had ever produced. This included all the pieces that had received navigational and chronometer ratings. They were not even arranged for presentation; they were merely in drawers. I was shown the collection by their renowned “springer.” I have forgotten his name, but he was responsible for adjusting the watches to win the chronometer ratings. He was probably 80 years old at the time. Interestingly but not surprisingly he could only speak to me about adjusting the hairspring but not about the watch in general. This is something that is not uncommon in the watch world. A craftsman will only know about the part of the watch that they are responsible for. When I produced my own watch in Geneva many years ago, I realized that the dial maker and case maker and other associated craftsmen knew almost nothing about what each other did. This seemed odd to me, but it is that way. Lastly, our family jewelry store in Los Angeles was an official Longines retailer so I can speak from personal experience that Longines is an exceptional watch company regarding their service and dependability. They are also famous for the “Ultra Chron...

Antique, New and Vintage Watches

Records show that, in Europe, by the 16th century, it was high time for portable clock devices. Right now, perhaps you’re shopping for your own. If so, find a vast range of fashionable and functional antique, new and classic vintage watches on 1stDibs.

While wall-mounted time tellers and grandfather clocks were much more convenient than the sundials of ancient history, watches were becoming crucial for an increasingly connected society whose members learned that the latest advancements in technology meant they could carry devices that kept time to within a minute a day. Tragically, the first pocket watches — albeit an improvement on the accessories that preceded them, which dangled from a chain worn around the neck — didn’t help much as far as accuracy or portability. Focused on style over substance, the upper class frequently carried lavish pieces that ran hours behind.

Eventually, watches migrated from owners’ pockets to their wrists. In the early days of watchmaking, watches were fragile enough that they necessitated protection from the elements. Now, wristwatches made of gold and steel can withstand the harshest climates — even 100 meters underwater, in the case of Rolex’s Submariner. Designer Gérald Genta, whose range of clients included Rolex, created for Audemars Piguet the first luxury sports timepiece to be made from stainless steel. First introduced in 1972, the Royal Oak was a perfect choice for blending the form and function that are now synonymous with sports watches.

Indeed, although exceedingly practical, the watches of today are far from bland. Bvlgari’s iconic Serpenti watch was on everyone’s list after the collection’s bold bracelet, which technically debuted after the timepiece, graced the wrist of actress Elizabeth Taylor. If anything, elaborately crafted timepieces — the unmistakably boxy silhouette of Cartier Tank watches, the elegant and minimal Calatrava designed by legendary Swiss house Patek Philippe — are even more effective than the shape we associate with traditional watches. You’ll always know what time it is because you won’t be able to tear your eyes away from your new accessory.

Form watches — the all-encompassing moniker bestowed upon non-round watches — are making headlines and completing contemporary fashionable ensembles the world over. At the same time, both casual fans and careful collectors are drawn to the unbeatable charm of vintage styles, such as the icons designed by Omega that even James Bond can’t resist

When shopping for a watch, it’s good to keep your needs as well as your specific personal style in mind: A smaller, subtle timepiece is a good fit for small wrists. When will you be wearing your new accessory? There’s a versatile model out there for everyday wear, while a rugged, feature-heavy watch is a safe bet if you’re prone to embarking on all-weather activities in the great outdoors.

Find exactly what you’re looking for in an unparalleled collection of antique, new and vintage watches on 1stDibs — we promise it will be worth your time.
