The Hathor ring and earring suite were inspired by Hathor, an important — and multitasking — ancient Egyptian goddess. She was the goddess of beauty, joy, romance, dance and incense. She was also the Sovereign of Stars who welcomed the dead into the afterlife. In her spare time, she was the Mistress of Turquoise and the patron saint of miners. In opposition to Hathor is another Egyptian goddess, Sekhmet, who was thought to be as scorching as the midday sun. The concept of a swiveling, two-in-one piece of jewelry is ancient, but I was determined to have a hidden mechanism so that the wearer could decide whether to reveal this art piece's secret. These one-of-a-kind earrings and ring were created by my jewelry artisans in New York City: The hidden mechanism for this piece is incredibly intricate and perfecting this design took over one year. To prevent the turquoise color from detracting from the stunning carnelian's translucent red tone, we added an extremely thin layer of gold behind the carnelian. These intricate details and high level of workmanship add to the artistry of the piece.
