This gold ( 20 K ) ring, with an authentic Roman carnelian (1st cent.A.D.) belongs to SERRA archeological collection, that use genuine ancient Roman coins and intaglios. In the center of the ring , the roman intaglio depicts goddess Athena. She is an ancient Greek goddess associated with wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, law and justice, strategic warfare, mathematics, strength, strategy, the arts, crafts, and skill. All of our jewels are certified by certificate of authenticity attesting their Greek or Roman origin ! Glyptic, the "small but not minor" art to engrave gems and hard stones (but also vitreous pastes), in Roman times it was widely used for rings ( for men or women) , necklaces, bracelets and earrings ( the ring of Augustus in gold with black onyx stone, engraved with a Capricorn, symbol of the emperor's power, is famous!). These rings with engraved stones were frequently used also as seals, stamping them on cast molten wax, placed to close a document. The engraved stones were worked by skilled engravers; the themes of the figures were chosen by the clients or left to the sensibility of the artist. Almost always they were mythological or allegorical subjects. Still today there is a flourishing market of these ancient stones, which over time have been found also because they were often removed and thrown away by persons that sought only gold and silver, as the Barbarians in the times of invasions. The "pearls" of the glyptic, are small masterpieces that allow us to retrace the history, going back in time.
