21st Century 9 Karat Gold and Diamond Drop-shape Cesellato Pendant and Chain
About the Item
Understated and elegant, and yet 600-odd years in the making, this rose gold and silver, pear-shaped pendant is produced using an ancient Albanian technique that was brought to Palermo in the fifteenth century.
In this piece, carefully selected 0.50-carats diamonds, each rose-cut with 9 facets, are hand-chiselled into the slightly domed .925 silver top of the pendant, which is about 8.5 millimetres across and 13 millimetres long. The chain is 50 centimetres long.
This collection represents an art form that reflects the rich history of Sicily. In the fifteenth century, Albanian immigrants arrived in Palermo, bringing with them a unique method of jewellery-making which has become known as “cesellato”. Their descendants preserved the method over the next 600-odd years, merging it with new materials, fashions and techniques which arrived following each new invasion of the southern Italian island. The FANCS V workshop is situated in the heart of Sicily's capital city, Palermo. The jeweller is a three-generation Sicilian family business owned and run by Simona Elia and her husband Natale Vitale. Created by Natale's grandfather, FANCS V has grown from a goldsmith shop into a design studio where Simona, who trained in Milan, contributes signature collections to complement the custom pieces Natale produces for a dedicated client base. For FANCS V, happiness is defined by the moment you receive your jewel and fall in love with it. Look for the company code PA266 stamped into all gold pieces, which indicate their authenticity.
