About the Item
This DUBINI coin necklace from the 'Empires' collection features an authentic silver coin from the Greco-Baktrian Kingdom dating circa 200-185 B.C. set in 18kt yellow gold with citrine and garnet cabochon.
Depicted on the coin:
Obverse - Head of elephant right, wearing bell around neck.
Reverse - Large kerykeion; BAΣIΛEΩΣ downwards to right, ΔHMHTPIOY downwards to left, monogram to inner left.
HISTORY
Born about 222 B.C., Demetrius I, son of Euthydemus, ruled from c.200 to 180 B.C. He was never defeated in battle, earning the epithet Aniketos (“Invincible”). About 180 B.C. he invaded India, conquering the Indus valley and advancing far into the Ganges plain. On his handsome bronze coinage, Demetrius placed the head of an elephant, with a kerykeion on the reverse-the symbolic staff carried by Greek heralds, and by the god Hermes,
