About the Item

This is a spectacular Museum Quality Antique Pendant in the Renaissance Revival style set with Rose Cut Diamonds and a central hanging Baroque Pearl made by the acclaimed British jewelers, Child & Child (1880-1916), of London. The pendant remains in its original fitted velvet, silk and leather box with the Child & Child insignia. The pendant is made of Silver topped with Pink Gold as was the custom of the Renaissance jewelry. The open form pendant is large, 3 1/4 inches long, and dramatic. The design is absolutely stunning with the open work set throughout with Rose Cut Diamonds in cut down collet settings. In the center is a hanging Baroque Pearl. There is a crossed arrow motif at the top in gold. The British jewelry house Child & Child had a brief but brilliant turn. Opened in 1880 by brothers Harold and Walter Childs, the duo created neo-Renaissance jewelry. So incredibly eye catching were the pieces that they garnered the attention of royals including Queen Victoria, King Edward VII and King George V and at the beginning of the 20th century the co-founder of the house, Harold Childs, was granted the Royal Warrant by Her Majesty Queen Alexandra, the wife of Edward VII. Their creations are now part of the Victoria & Albert Museum collection in London, the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge and many others. The house shuttered in 1916 after just 35 years in business, but the pieces remain highly collectible and coveted, particularly those with the Child & Child unofficial trademark of a sunflower between two C’s. The pendant is a stunning example of their work. The pendant dates to 1891 - 1916 when Child & Child were at their establishment on Alfred Place. The pendant is hallmarked with the iconic Child & Child sunflower between two Cs mark. The pendant is 3 1/4 inches (85mm) long by 1 5/8 inches (40mm) wide. The pendant weighs 12.9 grams.
