Jill Garber 19th Century Sistine Madonna Angel Portrait with Turquoise Bolo Tie

About the Item

With a visionary approach to the classic, Western bolo, Jill Garber has designed this poetic piece around a 19th century hand-painted angel portrait on porcelain. The Sistine Madonna, also called The Madonna di San Sisto, is an oil painting by the Italian, High Renaissance artist, Raphael. Commissioned in 1512 by Pope Julius II, for the church of San Sisto, Piacenza, the canvas was one of the last Madonnas painted by Raphael. This portrait depicts one of the two angels that leans curiously beneath the Madonna as she holds the Christ child, Jesus. Raphael’s ability to convey character in his portraits with clarity and simplicity establishes his work as some of the finest expressions of humanism during the Renaissance era, and this portrait is no different. The angels beneath the Madonna were inspired by children that Raphael saw in the streets looking wistfully into a baker shop. Surrounding the 2.5” X 3.125” portrait are 26, 9 mm, natural American, robins-egg blue, turquoise cabochons. The overall size of this grand Bolo is 4” x 3.375”, and the black, woven, leather braids measure 21.5” long. The finely-tuned Bolo slide is carefully executed in sterling silver - with a smooth, snug fit, making it easy to adjust without damaging the braids. Because no detail is forgotten, the sterling silver aiguillettes are each adorned with a matching 9 mm turquoise cabochon. Having a whimsical yet romantic - approach, this Bolo captures the spirit of the American West, while serving as a beautiful homage to the High Renaissance. • Antique, 19th century, museum-quality, miniature porcelain portrait depicting an angel from Raphael’s Madonna Di San Sisto • Porcelain portrait - 2.5” X 3.125” • Overall Bolo size (including turquoise cabochons) - 4” x 3.375” • Surrounding portrait, 26 - 9 mm, round, bezel-mounted, turquoise cabochons • Custom-crafted, sterling silver, Bolo slide • Black Leather, woven Bolo braids - overall length 21.5” • One-of-a-kind high jewelry, exclusively designed by Jill Garber • Hallmarked • Size adjustments will be provided as requested Jill Garber’s high jewelry collection redefines antiquities and artifacts through a love of cultural differences and a timelessly romantic prism of synergistic beauty. Within her collection are treasures created to inspire you to embrace and express the heart and soul of your own, unique story.
