Mario Buccellati Parure Midcentury Masterpiece

$380,000

About

This is a Mario Buccellati Parure from the Mid-Century. All Buccellati jewels —new and old— are distinctively magnificent but vintage Buccellati pieces are in especially high-demand and vintage Mario Buccellati pieces are the most coveted of all. Widely considered one of the finest and most skilled goldsmiths of all time, Mario Buccelatti's creations are each individual works of art. Buccellati is instantly recognizable by the intricate, elaborate texturing of the gold and the extraordinary gems set within the piece. Some exceptional pieces took Mr. Buccellati over a year to create. This exceedingly rare and ravishing suite of original and signed Mario Buccellati jewels consists of an approximately 16" necklace, a 7 ¾" bracelet, and a pair of 1" square clip earrings. Each jewel has been created with a series of thick 18K yellow gold panels in a leaf and fleur-de-lis, motif. The panels are joined together with ornate oval links. At the center of each panel is an old-mine cut diamond. Every hand-cut diamond is prong-set and surrounded by a constellation of eight tiny single-cut diamonds, each in its own rub-over mounting. In total there are 18 old-mine cut diamonds and 144 single-cut diamonds that together total approximately 27 carats. The diamonds are eye-clean and warm to light fancy-yellow in color. The necklace has a width of 1" and the central panel is suspended with gold chain and measures 1.5". The bracelet, like the earrings, also has a width of 1". And yet, it is not the extraordinary diamonds that are the star of the show here; but rather the absolutely astounding metalwork. Mario Buccellati used goldsmithing tools from the Renaissance-era to create the distinctive textures Buccellati jewels are known for. The gold has been worked by the hand of one of the great jewelers himself and the resulting pieces are breathtaking. A suite of jewels created in the 1950s by the legendary Mario Buccelatti is a rare and magnificent treasure. The parure ships with a letter of appraisal from the Buccelatti house dated December 2018 in which the suite is described and appraised at $450,000.
