18th Century and Earlier Hoop Earrings

For sale a very rare pair of Italian antique 14k gold earrings from the late 18th century, featuring two large pear-shaped, enameled cherubs. On each side, the cherub is depicted on foot, facing forwards and nude with blue color wings. He holds a bread upright with his right hand and supports it with his left. In the Old Testament wheat and bread are symbols of the fecundity of the earth. The New Testament associates the fruits of the earth—a gift of God to humankind—"Take this and eat, for this is my body." Examined under a magnifier, you will see all the exquisite details: pinky cheeks, blue eyes, double chins, blond hair, seeds on the bread he is holding… we have the impression that we are looking at an oil painting from a world-famous museum. The earrings are surrounded by 54 natural pearls and are mounted in 14k gold. They have the back to front closing for pierced ears.
