About the Item

An exquisite pair of dramatic gold earrings from the Victorian (ca1880) era! These fantastic earrings are crafted in vibrant 18kt yellow gold and have an elongated torpedo style design. A long link hangs from a simple earring wire and decorative round surmount at the top, swinging with lovely movement when worn. The sculpted 3-dimensional design is formed by several teardrop and scroll-shaped die struck pieces that come together to create a dramatic and hollow torpedo shape. Ornate open wirework embellishes the center, creating delicate cutouts, accented with lovely beaded floral motifs. Additional ornate wirework lines each teardrop piece, and a carved, pointed bead at the tip finishes each stunning earring. The beautiful surmount features a complimentary ornate wirework and beaded design, and attached at the top is a simple wire, allowing the earrings to frame the face beautifully. Despite their substantial size, the earrings are particularly lightweight and comfortable to wear, thanks to their hollow design. They make a stunning statement piece and would be wonderful addition to any Victorian collection! Each earring hangs approximately 3 5/8" long in total length (including the wires), and measures a little more than 5/8" wide and thick. The earrings are in overall good antique condition. Besides normal surface wear, there is no serious damage to the yellow gold setting, except for a very small crack and a few minor dents to a few die struck pieces, however given their location and size, they are not noticeable when worn. The earring wires are securely attached and in good working order.
