Fabulous antique piece created in England during the art deco period, back in the 1925. Crafted by the jewelry company of J. Grayson & Sons Limited which was located in the city of Warwickshire or commonly know as Leamington Spa. This double sided arrow jabot-brooch scream art deco with its European old cut diamonds, the millegrain etchings finish and the elegant arrow design. This piece was carefully crafted with impeccable attention to details in solid .900/.999 platinum and 18 karats gold and is fitted with a straight bar and a lock to be twisted for safety. It is embellished with an outstanding selection of twenty European diamonds, one special carving of rock quartz and twenty-nine French carvings of black onyxes. The settings are finished with the difficult setting technique of millegrain. The diamonds add an incredible amount of brilliance to the piece with their excellent quality. The brooch remain in excellent physical condition with absolutely no replacement of any diamonds.
Diamonds: Mounted in millegrain settings, with 20 European rose cut diamond of 0.82 carat, white colorless F color, VS-2 clarity.
Rock quartz: Mounted with 1 geometric piece carved in the shape of feathers from natural translucent rock quartz. This piece is worked out with insiced carvings simulating the texture of the feathers

Austrian Egyptian revival Plique à Jour winged Scarab brooch
An exceptional elongated brooch, created in Austria during the art nouveau period, back in the 1915. This magnifique piece has been carefully crafted with the egyptian revival style, in solid .900/.999 silver with brushed finish. The wings are accented with applications of the difficult technique of Plique à Jour in translucent yellow-green and bluish-gray enamels. Fitted at the reverse with a hinged horizontal bar with a security lock. The figure represent the Egyptian sacred scarab with open feathers wings, of the god Khepri.
Quartz Stones: Mount in bezel settings, with 2 round cut of blue quartz.
Opal: Mount in a bezel setting, with 1 oval cabochon cut of a natural opal of about 2.75 carats.
Weight: 17.95 Grams, (11.50 Dwt).
Measurements: 108 mm by 26 mm (4.25 x 1.02 Inches).
Hallmarks: Stamped with the maker's mark inside a circle, the mark for the assay of the silver and signed, "FL DEPOSE STERLING .900".
Egyptian Winged Scarab
This kind of beetle was highly symbolic to ancient Egyptians, it represented rebirth and renewal. They believed that the sun was pushed across the sky every day by a giant scarab, the god Khepri. In real life, the scarab beetle lays its eggs in a ball of dung and rolls the ball ahead of it wherever it goes. Originated in Ancient Egypt. A scarab is shaped like a dung beetle. There is a head, wing case, and legs. It is sometimes rounded and sometimes flat. The scarab was associated with the god Khepri who was the god or rebirth, creation, and the sun. Dung beetles were the earthly personification of Khepri as they would lay their eggs in balls of dung and then roll the dung balls all around until the eggs hatched. Early hieroglyphics depict Khepri as a scarab holding up the sun. There were hundreds of memorial scarabs created to memorialize Amenhotep III’s deeds. These included the bull hunt scarab which symbolizes strength and victory over chaos. Later, around 2000 BCE the scarab was used in jewelry and as seals. During the ArtDeco period when Gabriel "Coco" Chanel was at her peak as a Parisian couture fashion-designer in the early 1930s, this antique one-of-a-kind handcrafted gem-fringed and gilt-chain medallion brooch with trombone clasp was commissioned to accessorize one of her clothing designs. Marked only "FRANCE" like some early 1930s Chanel couture jewelry (without a brand stamp until the 1950s), its artistic origin is most likely from ornate organic-form sketches by her favorite parurer Fulco di Verdura. The Sicilian duke began creating fabric patterns for Chanel in 1927, which shortly expanded to fine jewelry beginning with custom pieces for herself. These include the iconic Byzantine-influenced gem-adorned cuffs referencing the Maltese military-cross, which the French designer can often be seen wearing in circa-1930s photos.
This bright yellow-gold brooch suits goldsmith Verdura's early anti-Art-Deco aesthetic that was considered a radical departure from 1920s silver-tone jewelry, which otherwise featured linear geometric designs or figurative representation. The softly-shaped deconstructed gem-bouquet mixes amethyst and rose-quartz beads with natural Keshi pearls and intricate tiny gilt leaves, which are wired to a Baroque-motif open-work frame that dangles another gem surrounded by a thick gilt-rope halo. Notably, Verdura is credited with re-introducing since Victorian times the rope motif to jewelry.
Since 1930, Verdura's unique style was influenced by travels with Chanel to explore Byzantine art, Baroque architecture, and exotic flora-and-fauna among his native Italian aristocratic estate. The legendary fashion-editor Diane Vreeland and American entertainment-stars were among the first Chanel clients to acquire couture real-gem-adorned jewelry made by Verdura, while one of the two brooches treasured by Vreeland was titled "Theodora". See our photo of the Byzantine mosaic of Empress Theodora, whose image wearing many teardrop pearls above her chest and surrounded by a golden halo seems to be the inspiration for this brooch.
As one of the most important modern-design collaborations, Chanel's close relationship with Verdura lasted largely-undocumented years in Paris, until he launched his first outside jewelry venture with a Hollywood designer-boutique after emigrating to the United States in 1934. By 1939 as a financially-backed in-demand goldsmith, he founded the namesake jewelry-company Verdura in NYC. After he retired in 1973, the brand continued to operate without him with different owners.
