In contrast, the back half—marked by an easy-to-open side closure and hinge—is left unadorned with just the beautiful mirror-polished 18K white gold surface gleaming. Pavé, from the French word for paved, is a setting method in which the surface of a jewelry item is blanketed with tiny sparkling stones. The way the diamonds curve around the edges is an artistic and technically adept detail that adds to the softness of the forms.
