Art Deco circa 1930, Black Opal and Diamond Platinum 18 Karat Gold Cocktail Ring

About

Australia's opal mines are famous for the most beautiful opals on Earth. Especially the opals mined in Lightning Ridge are almost legendary: With their so-called flashfire effects, they showcase vivid new colours and patterns with every movement. Black opals are a specialty of those mines. This Australian black opal shows all the characteristics of precious opals mined in that outback town in New South Wales. The large gemstone is a solid opal in an oval cabochon cut, showing ultramarine, violet and turquoise reflexes on a blue-black base colour. Depending on the light, the reflexes can be subtle or vivid – just a little movement of the wearer's hand can inspire a veritable firework in the gemstone. Ten eight-cut diamonds flank the opal to its left and right. Their settings are made of platinum, while the band is made of white gold. Its expressive design makes this ring a typical cocktail ring of the Art Déco era. It's in beautiful condition and ready to be worn at once. MATERIALS A precious solid opal, approx. 11.7 x 19.7 mm / 0.46 x 0,78 in Ten diamonds, 8/8 cut, approx. 0.20 ct altogether, Wesselton/H, si–pi White gold 750/000, resp. 18 karat Diamond settings of platinum HALLMARKS Fineness mark "18ct FINE PLAT" in the band DIMENSIONS Ring face 2.1 x 1.2 cm / 0.83 x 0.47 in RING SIZE German 51.5 UK approx.
