"Music and Nature, " Rare and Fine Swedish Grace Period Bronze Sculptures

About the Item

Beautifully sculpted, cast and finished, this pair of 1930-vintage Swedish Grace Bas relief sculptures depict nude allegorical figures, one male and one female, each finished in a warm, golden patina. The male figure is holding a bell, and the female has attracted a butterfly to her hand, so they may represent Music and Nature. The pair was made by the ASEA Verken Company in Ludvika, Sweden, northwest of Stockholm.

    Located in Philadelphia, PA
Beautifully sculpted and realized in bronze with a warm, deep brown patina, this relief panel by William Zorach depicts a father directly facing the viewer, embracing his son and daughter who are both engrossed in the care of a long-tailed bird. The artist was born in Lithuania, grew up in Cleveland, and spent much of his life in New England with his wife, Marguerite Zorach, an important artist in her own right. Although Zorach was a painter as well as a sculptor, he may be best known for a large female nude...
