Late 16th Century Brussels Historical Tapestry with the Roman General Scipio

About the Item

A Brussels historical tapestry, attributed to Martin Reymbouts, late 16th century. From the story of Scipio series, the renowned Roman general, a royal couple conveying honors upon Scipio, who kneels respectfully at left, expressing their appreciation for his courage in the wars in Carthage and Hispania, and for returning their daughter unharmed. Enclosed within an elaborate border of Game Park scenes, birds, the Gods of Olympus, and allegorical figures. Wool with silk inlay. Measures: 11’4” H x 10’9” W. Hanging: The tapestry comes ready for hanging, with linen backing and a strip of hook and loop tape at the top end, which can be connected to the opposite side of the supplied hook and loop tape, which could be tacked to your wall. For those who prefer the use of a tapestry rod, we can add the appropriate size loops to accommodate your needs.
