About the Item
18th century exquisite Louis XV panetiere
Originally used to store French baguettes or long loaves of bread, panetieres were meant to sit on a petrin (dough chest) but eventually grew into elaborate decorative pieces which hung on the wall. This exquisite carvings include A Basket of fruits and wheat.
This piece rests on scrolled cabriole feet, but is also mounted to hang on a wall. Decorated with rare long key plates and hinges and spindle bars.
