Original Signed Louis Icart Etching Titled "Idleness" or Laziness" Bear Rug 1925

About the Item

Louis Icart (1888-1950) artist that worked in America and France. This Erotic etching and aquatint printed with colour and with hand colour titled "SMOKE' (FUMÉE), 1926" showing a beautiful woman in a diaphanous gown reclining on a bear skin rug with a lit cigarette and incense burner. Pencil signed by Icart, lower right., has embossed Windmill L-M Paris stamp and pencil # 325 on left side. Plate in frame is 19.5 x 14 inches, sight 26" x 21-3/8". Some discoloration and marks to the arts borders, lighter color near T of his signature. Not examined outside of frame. Sorry for the reflections in the glass. Provenance : This was from the collection of Edith & C.C. Johnson Spink, founding family and former owners of the Sporting News. ST. Charles Claude Johnson Spink was the publisher of The Sporting News, then a St. Louis-based weekly newspaper known as the nation’s “Bible of Baseball.”.
