Original vintage photograph of an inspired art connoisseur. Hienz Rosenberg (Henry Rox) was born March 18, 1899 in Berlin. Henry Rox was educated at: The University of Berlin- 1919 - 1923: Charlottenburger Kunst-gewerbeschule, Berlin - - 1921 - 1925 Academie Julian, Paris - 1925 - 1927 Academie Colarossi, Paris 1925 - 1928 Trained to be a sculptor and teacher, his sculpture was displayed in many cities in Europe The list of exhibitions mentioned in his unsuccessful applications for a 1941 and 1948 Guggenheim grant include: Salon D' Automne Paris, 1926 Juryfreie Kunstschau Berlin, 1929 Freie Kunstschau Berlin, 1930 Preussische Akademie der Kunste Berlin, 1929, 1931, 1932 Berliner Secession Berlin, January 1933 Gallery Paul Cassirer und Alfred Flechthein Berlin, January 1933 The Royal Academy of Arts London 1935, 1937, 1938 The Royal Institute Glasgow, Scotland 1938 Rox returned to Berlin after his art studies in Paris as a Dadaist and in 1931 began experimenting with "photo sculpture" photographing sculptures of characters created from fruit and vegetables. He attended: Berliner Fotoschule 1933 With the rise of the Nazis Henry fled Germany with his wife Lotte for London in 1933. In London his distinct stylized photo work brought him a number of prestigious commercial clients, Harrods, Guiness, De Bijenkorf, Vitrolite, Helene of London, Dole, Shell Oil, Macy's, CBS Radio among others. His work was featured editorially in publications in Germany, England, France, Holland, Denmark, Sweden, Switzerland, Belgium and several American publications including New York Times Magazine, Newsweek, Life, Vogue, Madamoiselle, Town and Country, Harper's Bazaar and McCall's, Christian Science Monitor and many other American newspapers. Rox moved to the United States in 1938 and was hired in 1939 as a lecturer in sculpture at Mount Holyoke College, promoted to Assistant Professor of Art in 1948, Professor of Art in 1954, Mary Lyon Professor of Art in 1963, and Professor Emeritus upon retirement in 1964. He died on July 14, 1967 at his home in South Hadley, Mass. Henry Rox illustrated 3 children's books: Tommy Apple and his Adventures in Banana-Land (1935), Tommy Apple and Peggy Pear (1936), Banana Circus (1940)
