About the Item

This lovely reproduction of Eos is after the original painting by Sir Edward Landseer, and is unsigned. The painting is very well executed and the artist has captured the greyhound’s expression beautifully. It measures 55 in, 140 cm wide by 43 .¼ in, 109.8 cm high and is unframed. The original work was commissioned by Queen Victoria as a surprise Christmas gift for her husband, Prince Albert. The painting depicts the prince’s favourite greyhound, standing proud and handsome. She is shown guarding her master’s belongings, hinting at the dog’s loyalty to the prince and the close relationship the pair shared.

    Most likely a really good gallery copy of Orpen’s portrait of Lady Evelyn Herbert. Portrait of Lady Evelyn Herbert after Sir William Orpen (1871-1931). Oil on canvas. The sitter was the daughter of Lord Carnarvon who discovered Tutankhamen's tomb and she was one of the first to enter the tomb in 1922. She was the first woman to do so. This painting was exhibited in the same Gallery as the Roscommon Dragoon by Orpen, also in this category……namely the Ballyrickart Gallery of Irish Art in Ireland.
