This Gloucester harbor scene is by the renown American marine painter Emile Albert Gruppe (1896-1978).
Born in Rochester New York. Gruppe settled in Gloucester Massachusetts on Cape Ann in the early 1930s where he established the Gloucester School of Painting (1940-1970) in an old school house.
"On The Ways" is a fine example of Gruppe's work, and of his favorite subjects in and around Gloucester Harbor.
