John Barbour Hard Edge Painting, 1966

Barbour was active as a photographer and painter in Los Angeles and was exhibited in 1964 at the second major exhibition of hard-edge painting curated by Jules Langnser, held at the Newport Beach Pavilion. Born in 1891, he was the oldest of the group of painters that included John McLaughlin, Lorser Feitelson, June Harwood and others, and received training from Henri Matisse. His date of death is unknown, and the grouping of works currently for sale has not been seen in 40 years.
