About the Item
In a superb example of Art Deco decorative painting influenced by Medieval motifs, this frieze painting by famous muralist Dunbar Beck is saturated with deep, gorgeous color. Each of the two exotic birds is imbued with burnt sienna edged with periwinkle and coral, against a backdrop of charcoal and framed by mossy green. Beck executed an important set of murals for the 1939-1940 New York World's Fair, a WPA mural for the post office in Danvers, Massachusetts, and decorations for a piano donated by Steinway to the Roosevelt White House.
