About

Beautiful and vivid painting, oil paint or panel. This is a representation of a Mediterranean view of the water with sailing boats and a typical Mediterranean house. This work is by the Flemish painter Charles-Louis Bisschops (Liège, April 25, 1894 - Rossignol, 1975) Charles Bisschops has his own Wikipedia page, information about this: Charles Bisschops was a Belgian painter, graphic artist and draftsman. He was a student at the Academy of Brussels from 1912 to 1919. The main professors were Jean Delville and Constant Montald. Bisschops was a volunteer during the First World War. He was injured twice. In 1920 he married Lucienne, daughter of the sculptor Jules Coessens. He subsequently traveled in Italy, Algeria (1921), Spain and France. The light and bright sun in these countries led him to a bright color and a bright color palette in his works. In 1944 he was an assistant to Alfred Bastien and Charles Swyncop in the realization of his "Panorama of the Battle of Dinant". In 1965 he moved to Rossignol, France. Bisschops painted figures, genre scenes, landscapes, and was also a decorative painter and designer of sets. His figure pieces mainly depict elegant fashionable women, dancers and Spanish women in traditional costume. Shortly after the First World War, there was a phase in his work that expressed the untold melancholy of this event. His etchings had the same theme as his paintings. Noteworthy is an album with etchings “La Légende d’Hiram”, depictions of murals in a Brussels Masonic lodge.
