De Buck Raphael, Courtesans, Watercolor, Framed and Signed

About the Item

This watercolor is by Raphael de Buck (1902–1986) .It resembles the style of the 19th century impressionists such as Degas and Renoir. The painting consists mainly of a cool color palette of blues, greys and yellows. In the center a fine lady is seated at a table with a glass of wine or another beverage. Her gaze is directed towards something outside of the frame. As she takes up most of the painting, the rest of the space is taken by vague silhouettes of three other women in the background. The artist used powerful brushstrokes and the outline of the figures is not distinguished by clear boarders, but more with the way the paint is set and the brushstrokes directions, as well as the use of color by the de Buck. He signed this work in the bottom right corner with R. De Buck and it is framed as well.
