19th Century "the Wedding" Oil on Canvas Painting by Eugenio Lucas Velázquez

About the Item

19th century "La Boda / The Wedding" oil on canvas painting by Eugenio Lucas Velázquez (1824-1870). The scene represent a wedding under a bridge with everyone dressed accordingly. He was a Spanish painter in the Romantic style, known for genre and costumbrista scenes: pictorial interpretation of local everyday life, mannerisms, and customs. 19th century sources refer to him as Eugenio Lucas Padilla, which has caused some confusion, although it seems reasonable to assume that Velázquez was an adopted name.
