The analyzed painting, depicting a lake view, is signed lower left by Karl Rudolf Hugo Jonas, landscape painter, born in Goldapp in 1822 and died in Berlin in 1888. Jonas trained at the Königsberg Academy, where he was a pupil of Behrendsen. He worked in Munich in 1851. From the following year to 1854 he taught in Dantzig. He later returned to Munich and eventually settled in Berlin. Jonas visited the Alps, traveled to northern Italy and Corsica. He particularly loved painting night landscapes...
