"Frolic of Hound and Hares," Art Deco Wall Charger by Lachenal, Turquoise & Red

Full of energy and high spirits, and brilliantly glazed in turquoise, deep red, lime green and ivory hues, this large wall charger depicting two hares, three birds and a dog frolicing around its circumference was designed by the famed Lachenal ceramic works in France. Edmond Lachenal began the family dynasty, becoming well known for his Art Nouveau ceramics by the turn of the 20th century, and exhibiting at numerous international expositions. His son Raoul worked with his father until 1911, when he established a new workshop at Boulogne-sur-Seine; this piece is evidently by an artist working in Raoul's shop. The bold forms and strong colors of this piece suggest that it dates to the 1920s. It is signed on the reverse.
