About the Item

J. Webber: A boxing match in Hapaee (Hawaii). An original copper plate engraving on paper depicting a boxing match as witnessed during Cook's third voyage. John Webber was the official artist on Cook's final voyage through the Pacific and his drawings formed the basis for printed illustrations in A Voyage to the Pacific published in 1784 and engraved by various artists. Copper plate engraved by J. Taylor. Now in a walnut frame. An interesting historical engraving depicting a universal sport.
