About

Large, original oil on canvas, American impressionist style painting by well known American female artist, Anna Lee Stacey (1865-1943), depicting the famous Old Lyme Congregational Church in Old Lyme, Connecticut. This church is noted as a favorite subject of Old Lyme Colony painters. In the 1920s, Anna and her husband became regulars in the community of conservative impressionistic painters in Old Lyme, Connecticut, where the subject painting was created. This painting is a magnificent display of how artist Anna Lee Stacey captures beauty and history in paint. Painting is framed in the original 1920s era Newcomb Macklin hand carved antiqued gilded wood frame. Newcomb Macklin frames were a national prominent manufacturer of hand carved and gilded wood frames and are very sought after. Anna Lee Stacey was born in Glasgow, Missouri on September 10, 1865. She moved to Kansas and attended the Kansas City Art Institute and School of Design, where she met her husband, John F. Stacey, an instructor at the school. She settled into Chicago with her husband and attended the Art Institute of Chicago and began an illustrious career as a successful and appreciated female impressionist artist. She was a very prolific artist and one of the most exhibited local artists at the Art Institute of Chicago. A widely acknowledged artist of her time, she dedicated her life to her art. In 1937, Anna and her husband moved to Pasadena, California where Anna died at the age of seventy-seven. Painting framed measures 38” high x 40.5” wide x 2” deep. Painting unframed measures 34.25” high x 36” wide.
