About
ÁNGEL RICARDO RICARDO RÍOS
Lives and works in Mexico and Havana. Graduated from the Higher Institute of Art of Havana (1989).
The materials and the creative process itself have catalyzed an inordinate gestural and capricious work, in which both the representational references and the pictorial exercise translate the author's playful and somatic tendencies.
His work focuses on an interest in architecture, design and objects, along with drawing and painting.
His work has been exhibited in institutions such as El Museo de Pintores Oaxaqueños, El Museo Universitario del Chopo, El Museo de Arte Moderno de México.
Boris Viskin was born in Mexico City in 1960 where he lived his childhood.
His youth was spent in Israel (Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Kibbutz Galed), and later he lived for three years in Florence, Italy, where he began his pictorial career. In 1985 he returned to Mexico City and took part for two years in the engraving and lithography workshops at the Academia de San Carlos.
These changes in cultures, landscapes and languages are reflected in his work, where either through small figures devoured by large spaces, or through mixtures of abstract elements that are opposed to other figurative ones, the presence of the uprooted being emerges: by a fragile and vulnerable side, on the other firm and strong before the apparent senselessness of their existence.
Regarding his work, the artist says: “I always distrusted and felt uncomfortable with words. From an early age the world of images was always a more solid and secure space. Therefore painting, with all its limitations, has been for me the ideal medium to string together my multiple and contradictory personalities. At times I feel like an intuitive caveman; at times a conceptual artist. "
“You will find that in my work there are very abstract pieces, others very figurative, some closer to reality, others more poetic, and that have a lot to do with the handling of the material, now there is an obsession to achieve a more intimate space with a certain nostalgia, but that's where the viewer's criticism will come in".
