About the Item

A multifunctional teak folding tray table with two nesting trays and a base. Available in three heights it can be used as a side table, bar cart, cocktail table or an informal dining tray. Measure:(61 cm) The nesting trays are perfect as desk accessories, decorative pieces, small serving trays or can be hung on the wall as framed paintings. The base stand transforms this piece into a decorative object to be admired as a stand-alone statement piece. The form of this painted furniture piece is inspired by chinoiserie and Edwardian furniture design, with a unique creative direction by designer Mary Justice Thomasson. The painting is done in the style of original botanical illustrations. The Flora Collection pays homage to Nutmeg, the spice which was once more valuable than gold and sparked the historic Spice Wars in the Banda Islands. Our decorative twist is symbolized in the metamorphosis of the butterfly illustrated in this painted furniture piece, heralding Indonesia’s Independence from the Dutch (East India Company) who traded the small island of Run with its nutmeg plantations for Manhattan. FSC certified sustainable teak wood is used to fashion the legs in faux bamboo; a Chinese 16th century technique brought to Europe in the 1800s. The “Buddha bamboo” markings are the most complex of all to carve as each knot is hand-honed so no two knots are ever the same. The wood is kiln dried offering protection against degradation ensuring durability and sustainability. The artwork is hand painted on gesso, a Renaissance technique used by the Old Masters. A sustainable PU water-based finish is added to the acrylic and gouache painting on gessoed wood making it spill-proof and everlasting.
