About the Item

“Melatonin” side table is inspired by the artistic form of classical Chinese furniture and decoration such as the those in Buddhist and Taoist temples. It is covered in cotton fabric (white) or fine silk (other color options), hand-embroidered with the molecular geometry of Melatonin – the chemical that reduces insomnia – and text. As part of Duyi Han’s “Ordinance of the Subconscious Treatment” collection, this piece is considered a device that records human cultural history. It updates the decorative content of classical Chinese furniture and reflects a contemporary belief in the modern scientific side of (mental) health. The embroidery is done by highly experienced craftspeople in Suzhou, China. The coffee table is made by experienced professionals at Duyi Han’s collaborative workshop in Shanghai. Measures: L 30 x W 30 x H 53 cm Cover: Cotton (silk for other color options), removable, washable Embroidery: Silk Tabletop: Upholstered with foam, stable enough to hold cups. Inner cover in linen, non-removable. Fabric and embroidery color: Customizable Fabric and embroidery colors may differ slightly from the samples provided. Available in two embroidery techniques: standard or Suzhou Embroidery. Suzhou Embroidery is a designated National Intangible Cultural Heritage. While the default silk thread is about 0.15mm thick, Suzhou Embroidery’s thread is about 0.025mm thick. For Suzhou Embroidery, lead time would increase by 2 weeks. The embroidered result may look flatter than the default version. Suzhou Embroidery: 1.750 EUR.
