Jordan Mozer (b. 1958), Elephant Seal in Paradise, Side Table, Occasional Table, Wisconsin Walnut and Cast Aluminum Magnesium, Chicago, USA, 2018. Prototype with associated idiosyncrasy. Provenance: collection of the artist. Etched signature. Measurements: 23” tall x 17” x 15” ( 58 cm tall x 43 cm x 38 cm ). MATERIALS + METHODS Made in Chicago in 2018: Hand carved forms rendered in robot-sculpted Black Wisconsin Walnut and cast and burnished recycled aluminum-magnesium alloy. STORY Inspired by ecstatic bull elephant seals in the surf on California beaches, their backs arched, their trunks flopping back, their tails up, resurgent after near extinction. Created for Paradise, an art collector's boutique hotel in Seoul, Korea in which the table is surrounded by the work of Koons and Botero..
