Antique 19th Century Dutch Empire Oak and Gold Leaf Trumeau or Sideboard

About the Item

This elegant Empire sideboard was made in the Netherlands in the early 1800s and is also known as trumeau. It was made in the finest quality watered oak and has a beautiful crossband bur walnut veneer surrounding the drawer. The S-shaped front legs are hand carved and decorated with gold leaf gilt acanthus leaves. The table has a mirror situated in the back as is common with this type of table. The table has elegant proportions and has a warm and dark brown color with great patina. The sideboard is in very good and solid condition. There was a water stain on the lowest board that was removed. Also, the mirror was a mercury silvered plate in very bad condition. The mirror was replaced by a new plate. The piece has a great patina and is ready for use.
