About the Item

Inspired by an 18th century Swedish-Gustavian country dining table in our inventory, this very handsome and solidly-built table was fabricated in our workshop. The top as shown is made of solid American maple planks that are 1 1/4" thick finished with a LEED certified, organic finishing oil in a light honey-color. The base has a distressed painted finish in a Gustavian grey or white tone. This table dismantles into five main sections for ease in shipping. The foot rests, which are depicted in a few of the views, are optional. An important connection! We use 2 sliding dovetail cross braces to connect the table to the trestle bases. This is done by cutting a dovetail socket the width of the underside of the table and then driving the pin and tail cut on the top of the cross brace through the channel. This allows the table to expand and contract regardless of your climatic conditions and will prevent the table top from checking or cupping. The cross brace is then pegged to the upper trestle bases . Our cabinetry employs 19th century joinery techniques and practices that we have learned and come to understand through 30 years of restoration. The wood we use for the tops is sourced from a small family mill in Pennsylvania that only cuts old growth trees that are in distress. There wood is extraordinary and unlike commercially available lumber the grain is tight, the planks are wide and the surface patterns can be exceptional. It is comparable to wood used for cabinetry back in the 19th century Shown in photos as a 12' table but can be custom made to any size in various woods.
