English Rosewood Early Victorian Library Table

About the Item

This table completely made from the solid is of exceptional quality. The woods selected for the top are well figured and done not in veneer but from the solid timber. The top is supported on a splay legged base with a connecting stretch all carved again from the solid. This wood is very hard and difficult to cross cut and to carve this would have had to take great skill and effort. The table still retains much of the classical feel of the late Regency but has moved into a more decorative place without being overdone as in the late Victorian manner. The carving is refined and of excellent quality, as is the wood selection thru out and the piece retains its old fiinish and has had nothing but a new waxing applied. Note in photos that the table has an old label affixed attesting to its purchase from Sothebys in 1980 for the sum of 3600.00 and the day and number of the sale as well as the item number.
