'Écritoire', a Gem-Like Desk Bridging Design and the Decorative Arts

About the Item

‘Écritoire’ Desk (Lacquered) by French Lebanese Charles Kalpakian is a true gem, resounding in its elegance, simplicity, graphic unity and the complementarity of materials. Curves and straight lines fuse in an organic geometry. The satin glow of the varnished brushed brass harmonizes with the black lacquered top and the three drawers made of brown ebonized oak. This cultivated piece of furniture stands like a bridge between design and the decorative arts. Charles Kalpakian's ‘Écritoire’ Desk (Lacquered) is exclusively produced and sold by Galerie BSL in a limited edition of 8 pieces + 4 artist proofs. It can be custom-made in larger dimensions and in other finishes. Charles Kalpakian’s design is the result of his mixed inspirations: France his country of residence; Lebanon his country of birth and Street Art, his contemporary artistic culture. These influences take shape through the reinterpretation of motifs from the decorative arts and the history of architecture, filtered by a resolute urban and contemporary culture. The stroke is always clean, even if the gesture resembles calligraphy in space. Pricing does not include 20% VAT applicable in the EU only.

With a good grounding in street culture, Charles Kalpakian has retained the physical posture of graph to design this limited edition floor lamp. He offers here a reinterpretation of an iconic motif from Lebanese...
