About the Item
Wonderful console/ gaming table from the late 19th century, circa 1870, the so-called Historism period in Austria. Made of spruce wood and veneered with beautiful nut wood in a great technique - the so called "herringbone", this outstanding designed gaming table is a real transformer. Adorned by four artfully hand carved columns (= table legs), the great looking upper part provides a gorgeous nut/ burl veneered convertible tabletop and a big drawer, divided into four compartments. Useable either as a highly decorative console table or just rotate the top plate through 90° and lift up the splited plate - eh voila - you have a fantastic gaming table for four people, newly upholstered with red felt and four practicable brass bowls for the play money. Definitely one the most exceptional 19th century gaming tables we have restored in the past few years.
