'Goldstein' Reinforced Concrete Table, One of a Kind Artwork by Littlewhitehead

US$11,142.85

About

Inspired by the topography of post-industrial Glasgow, Littlewhitehead make landscapes composed of handmade sculpture, installations that elevate the language of abandoned space through careful material subversions. Research whilst making 13 life-size concrete figures for Kresen Kernow, the archive of Cornwall in Redruth, led Littlewhitehead to reinterpret the language of public realm environments with a series of sculpture that celebrates concrete’s natural materiality. Each piece, functioning as sculpture and table, is unique in its concrete surface – an inimitable mix of holes, rough edges and aggregate ghosting. Each too was inspired by a different piece of architecture. Goldstein by the Sheat Goldstein residence in Los Angeles, designed in 1963 by American architect John Lautner. The work entitled IIha took inspiration from the llha Musical, Sao Paulo, Brazil 1987, by architect Decio Tozzi. Hashima took inspiration from the Hashima City Hall building’s formwork in Japan. Whilst Antonine’s surfaces were developed as a response to the distressed areas of the Antonine shopping centre in Cumbernauld, UK. Each piece is marked on the underside with the artist’s name and the works title. All in excellent structural condition with blemishes and marks innate to the material. Worldwide shipping available on request. Littlewhitehead is Scottish artists Craig Little and Blake Whitehead. They have worked together since graduating Glasgow School of Art in 2007 and continue to exhibit internationally, most notably at the Hermitage, St Petersburg; the Kunstmuseum, Bern; Gallery of South Australia, Adelaide and Talbot Rice, Edinburgh. Littlewhitehead’s work is included in many private collections internationally including Saatchi, London.
