Brutalist Oregon Pine Coffee Table 1970s After Roland Wilhelmsson

About the Item

A medium-sized coffee table in solid Oregon pine with very attractive grain. We love this table for it’s warmth, excellent proportions and organic simplicity. Our favourite design touch is the undisguised bolted joints, visible through evenly spaced circular voids. The combination of well proportioned form and thick slabs of solid timber lend this table a refined brutalist style, worthy of Carlo Scarpa. This is a lovely example of 1970s raw brutalist materiality. The table is simple and functional and surprisingly light in weight but delivers a substantial, organic presence to interior settings. The timber has been previously oiled and waxed. It’s otherwise untreated and un-restored. It bears signs of fifty years in constant use. Multiple small dents and dings across all surfaces. The patina and rich color have developed beautiful depth. There is a very slight distortion to the top where two of the top slabs of timber join (see images, hard to see) but no splitting is apparent above or below. The distortion is only slight and is likely the result of aging timber in a domestic setting with uneven heat and moisture levels. This table will pack well with other items. To maximize use of your shipment, please view our other offerings and if you spot something you like ask us to check whether it will fit into the void/underside of the table.

It was purchased in the late 1960s or early 1970s from Israel by a dedicated collector of ceramics for use as an Ikebana vessel, and shipped to Australia...
