Antique Chinese Carved Elmwood Kang Daybed or Opium Table in Warm Honey Color

A Chinese Kang bed that was completely made in Ju Mu or elmwood. The wood shows a beautiful dark grain and it has a rich and warm honey color with great patina and gloss. A Kang bed is primarily served as a bed placed in the living quarters were many Chinese smoked their opium pipe, especially in Southern China. Therefore this type of bed is also known as an opium bed or opium table. Typical for a Kang bed is the heavy inward bend legs. This bed has a solid Jumu (Elm) top with a beautiful grain that sets it apart from the more common bamboo inlaid tops. The table has been used for the last few decades as a large coffee table and it has a great patina.

    Wear consistent with age and use. The table is in a very good and stable antique condition with great patina. The table was gently cleaned and the wax was revived. The table has no recent repairs.
