Roger Sprunger for Dunbar #7111 Olive Burl Sideboard Credenza, c. 1965, Signed

About the Item

A simply breathtaking and rare model #7111 Olive Burl sideboard by Roger Sprunger for Dunbar Furniture, circa 1965. Signed with the Dunbar brass emblem in one of the pull-out drawers and original Dunbar care instructions pamphlet as can be seen in the photos. This sought-after design is an ideal collectors example for the most discriminating and demanding client or purist-collector. The original condition of this cabinet was already excellent when we acquired it from the original owners who cared for this piece meticulously. However since the lacquer coat has aged approximately 40 to 50 years, we "refreshed" the finish by lightly removing the original lacquer coat and hand-applying a new French Polish lacquer. French Polish is the most laborious and expensive finish because it requires many repetitive coats and each one hand polished to a fine glass-like finish, and while it is very expensive, it is worth it for rare and valuable pieces like this Sprunger for Dunbar sideboard. The results are nothing short of spectacular - such a smooth, clear and deep finish - it looks almost like a sheet of glass (much more incredible in-person than you can see (or touch / feel) in the photos). And besides how incredible it looks - it will also protect your investment for the decades ahead. And for the purist collector - we did not alter or change the Olivewood or the color / stain of the gorgeous burled wood. All of the cabinet was left original except for the finishing coat which serves as a protective barrier and gives it that expensive and luxurious look that you see in very high end valuable antiques. This incredible example of Mid-Century Modern design features gorgeous burled Olivewood doors, front, top and sides which sits on top of a blackened brass double-x base which gives it a Post-Modern feel - demonstrating how ahead of the times Sprunger was when he designed this piece for Dunbar. The four door handles are also in the same blackened brass which provides subtle contrast to the otherwise "Statement Piece" that this cabinet can serve. This rare Dunbar cabinet features four doors concealing two compartments, two drawers and two adjustable shelves. Underneath the two drawers is additional storage space. One drawer is lined with felt and compartment dividers for silverware. This Roger Sprunger for Dunbar #7111 Olive Burl sideboard credenza would work great in a Mid-Century Modern, Scandanavian Modern or Danish Modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a Contemporary or Post-Modern room. Also consider mixing it up in a Traditional, Transitional, Classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. Would also be an apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge or members club, creative design studio or high-rise executive office. MEASUREMENTS: H 32.5" x W 80" x D 18" CONDITION: The original condition was already excellent however we "refreshed" the finish by hand-applying a new French Polish lacquer - the most laborious and expensive polish you can give to your most precious pieces. The result is incredible on this cabinet.
