Contemporary Italian Container, Cupboard, Sideboard in Canaletto Walnut, Brass

About the Item

Prospecto is a collection of wooden furniture skilfully decorated by inlaid thin brass profiles. This ancient inlay technique is here re-proposed to generate new three-dimensional effects that refer to optic art and at the same time remind us of Brunelleschi’s perspective drawings, Piero della Francesca’s paintings while also evoking the Renaissance atmosphere of Federico Da Montefeltro’s studio in Urbino. This is a design concept based on the theme of travel, which is not only a prerogative of a body in motion but also a mind getaway that can find its freedom in the domestic walls. Prospecto is not only a tribute to geometric perspective, but also a functional cabinet, complete with extra-light glass shelves. Container cabinets made of pre-milled wood panels in which brass profiles are inserted, cut and applied with accurate and precise manual inlay work. Particular doors without handles or holes.

Nanda is the first piece of the Parvati storage collection, designed by Serena Confalonieri for Medulum. The word Parvati, in Indian mythology, means “daughters of the mountains”: Nanda, Uma and Aparna are some of these deities who give their names to the pieces in the collection. The name Parvati, however, also identifies another very important figure, the bride of Shiva, the deity of marriage, to whom Indian women pay homage by wearing precious gold nose rings...
