About the Item

Wall system by Nisse Strinning in teak wood and white wall holders. One writing cabinet and six shelves. Very good condition. Nisse Strinnings designs should always be mentioned in connection with the work of his wife Kajsa Strinning. She was also a designer and almost all of her furniture designs were created through her collaboration. This began in 1949 with her first design of a bookshelf for a competition of the Swedish book publisher "Bonniers folkbibiotek", which they won. This "String Bookcase" became her breakthrough, her trademark, sold worldwide and is still very popular in Scandinavian households even after more than 70 years. The couple also designed a lot of furniture, but shelving systems have always been their focus, always convincing with functionality and durability, coupled with aesthetic design. In 1954 Nisse Strinning was awarded the gold medal at the Milan Triennale and in 1993 and 1999 was awarded for first-class Swedish design by the Swedish Society for Crafts and Design. The designer family Strinning was also commercially very successful. In 1952 they founded two companies, "Swedish Design AB" and "String Design AB". In the following two decades, they developed numerous popular pieces of furniture, which today belong to the contemporary design classics. Nisse Strinning, who was born on 8 December 1917 as Nils Strinning in Kramfors Sweden, studied architecture at the Royal Technical College in Stockholm in the 1940s. There he was already working on his first designs and, more importantly, met his wife as a designer. Her greatest lifework was and still is the "String Shelving System", one of the most popular pieces among design lovers. Nils "Nisse" Strinning passed away on 10 May 2006.
