Antique English Period Oak Mahogany-Banded Bureau

About the Item

This slanty-top chest is a good example of the style that was so popular in the 18th century when a gentleman needed such a piece for letters and rent collection records. The age of the piece shows in every way, including the well-used (ink-stained) writing surface. Good cubbies and drawers, with more recent faux books to hide important items, are charming. Beautiful color and patina overall, very authentic. The knobs have been replaced more recently, as is often the case with a piece of this age. The desk is 34 deep when opened.
