18th Century Louis XV Walnut Bureau Italian Genoese Drop-Front Desk

About the Item

An exceptional Italian Genoese walnut veneered and inlaid fall front bureau secretaire desk, dating back to the third quarter of 18th century, of Genoese origin. The fall opening to a fitted interior of six small drawers, pigeon holes and one central small door with an engraving. The waving, curved front of this antique Italian drop front bureau shows two short, small and convex drawers above two long and deep drawers; the scalloped lower front, the shaped apron is part of the lower drawer. Sides in solid walnut. The whole raised on curved cabriolet feet. The veneer is placed obliquely, in a herringbone pattern, within jutting frames and makes this antique Italian bureau very elegant. It comes from a private house in Milan. This antique Italian bureau showed minor losses of veneering and traces of its 250 years of history, as per the two last listed images below. We have restored it and finished this elegant bureau with a gommalacca shellac polishing, an exclusive by hand finishing technique that enhances the color differences of the various woods. It will is now in good conditions. This artwork is shipped from Italy. Under existing legislation, any artwork in Italy created over 70 years ago requires a governative licence for export called Belle Arti. The shipping may require additional 6-8 handling weeks to require and get the licence according to the final destination of the artwork.
